Product overview

Calcium fluoride (CaF₂) is a cubic single-crystal optical material with broad transparency from the ultraviolet (UV) to the infrared (IR). Its low refractive index and low optical dispersion make it suitable for UV/DUV optical systems, infrared optics, and spectroscopy applications.

Custom CaF₂ substrates can be produced with specified dimensions, crystal orientations, and surface finishes to meet application-specific requirements.

Key advantages

  • Broad optical transparency from the UV to the infrared
  • Low refractive index
  • Low optical dispersion
  • Low birefringence in suitable optical grades

Transmittance for 2 mm Thickness

The following figure illustrates the spectral transmittance of a 2 mm thick CaF₂ sample. Actual transmission depends on material grade, surface condition, and measurement conditions.

Transmittance of a 2 mm CaF₂ sample rises steeply at short wavelengths, forms a broad plateau near 90%, then falls toward zero at 11 µm.
