Product overview

Custom BaF₂ substrates can be specified with customer-defined dimensions and optical surface finishes.

Barium fluoride (BaF₂) is a cubic, optically isotropic single-crystal material with broad transmission from the ultraviolet into the long-wave infrared (LWIR). Its broad optical transmission and relatively low refractive index make it suitable for infrared optics and broadband transmission applications.

Key advantages

  • Cubic crystal structure with no intrinsic birefringence
  • Broad optical transmission from the UV to the long-wave infrared (LWIR)
  • Low refractive index, resulting in relatively low Fresnel reflection losses at uncoated surfaces
  • Low optical dispersion, suitable for broadband optical applications
